BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Lady Falcons traveled to Bowling Green, Ky. to compete in the Vette City Classic last weekend.
University of Pikeville
The Lady Falcons defeated the University of Pikeville Friday morning in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-22. Emma Noskey led the match with 11 of the team's 31 kills, with help from Krista Trimble and freshman Michelle Taylor with five kills each. Emilie Selvidge contributed 24 assists to the team's total 28. On the defensive side, newcomer Avery Lanning led the match in digs with a total of 11 with Trimble contributing eight.
University of the Cumberlands
The Falcons fell to the University of the Cumberlands in three sets late Friday with scores of 15-25, 20-25, and 19-25. The Patriots' Allyson Grava tallied 15 kills and eight digs against the Lady Falcons, helping secure wins in each set. For the Falcons, Noskey stood out with eight kills and Trimble followed close behind with seven. Taylor also added five kills for herself. Defensively, the team worked together. Lanning led the match alongside Patriots' Lester and Banks with 14 digs apiece. Krista Trimble and Adriana Bravo both added 11 and Noskey added 10. Selvidge had a stellar 25 assists and trailed behind the Patriots' Kendall Arnold, who had 34.
Union College
The Falcons fought to five sets for their first match of the day early Saturday, but failed to secure the win. Noskey once again led the match with 24 kills and had assistance from Carolina Ramalheira who had 14 kills and Michelle Taylor with 10. Selvidge boasted 51 assists in this match, equaling the total number of assists that the Bulldogs had. Lanning secured 17 digs alongside Noskey and Selvidge who had 14 digs each. The Falcons won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-22, but couldn't finish, and the Bulldogs pulled ahead in the last three sets 25-23, 25-23, and 15-12.
Brescia University
The Lady Falcons were able to secure a win in their last match of the weekend in three sets 25-18, 25-19, 25-23. Noskey tallied 15 kills with Bearcat Braelyn Rhodes following close behind with 10. Brescia's Joie Porter led the match with nine digs and Adriana Bravo had eight. Selvidge also added another 25 assists under her belt. The Lady Falcons left the Vette City Classic with a 2-2 start for the season.
"We always enjoy playing in Bowling Green at the Vette City Classic. It's a good kick start to our season," said head coach Carry Brown. "We were only together for seven days before playing and I am proud of the growth that I have already seen this weekend. We have a lot to work on, but they are easy fixes."
The Lady Falcons will travel to Southeastern University on August 23 for their next match at 6pm EST.
