Falcons Light Up Webber
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons scorched the nets en route to a 99-76 drubbing of the Webber International University Warriors on Tuesday night in Conn Gymnasium.
The Falcons jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead, after three three-pointers and an Earl Finch Jr. layup plus the foul. FC would never look back. 15-12 would be the closest Webber would ever be again. The Falcons led 57-33 after a hot shooting half that featured 10 made triples.
Late in the second half, the Falcons stretched their lead to 30 points, but Webber grabbed the last 7 points to make the final margin a 23-point Falcon win.
The Falcons were led in scoring by Matt Simpson who poured in 32 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists. Simpson shot 7-of-8 from 2 and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Bryan Chong contributed 15 points off the bench. Chong was a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range. Calvin "Earl" Finch Jr. filled the stat sheet with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Ethan Smith put up some nice numbers with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 dimes. EJ Wynn also had 9 points off the bench. The Falcons nailed 15 threes at over 48% in the game.
Head Coach Chase Teichmann had the following to say on Twitter regarding tonight's result, "Proud of our team. Beat a really good Webber team who's tough and well-coached. The guys were unselfish and hard to guard."
Webber drops to 14-7 overall and remains 8-2 in Sun Conference play. The Warriors are currently alone in first place in the Sun Conference. This marks 7 straight wins for the Falcons over Webber.
The win puts the #21 Falcons at 17-3 on the year and winners of five straight games. The Florida College men's basketball team has now won 22 consecutive home games, the third longest streak in the NAIA behind Loyola and College of Idaho.
