Lady Falcons Win Two in Kentucky
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Florida College Lady Falcon's volleyball team went 2-2 this past weekend in their first action of the 2019 season.
They started off the season against a Thomas More team coming off a 33-4 season last year. As if that wasn't a daunting enough task, FC would have to do it without one of its' best players, Abigail Hodges. Hodges tore her ACL in a scrimmage a week ago. She was 2nd Team All-Conference a year ago, and poised for more of the same this year. Thomas More had beaten conference foe Bethel in straight sets earlier, so they entered the contest with a 1-0 record. They would end up defeating the Lady Falcons 3-1. FC actually had more kills in the match than Thomas More (50 to their 49). The errors were just too much for FC to overcome.
Friday night, the Lady Falcons took down Pikeville in 4 sets to bounce back and grab their first win of the season. Senior Victoria Trueheart had an incredible 21 kill performance.
Saturday morning the Lady Falcons struggled against a formidable University of the Cumberlands team. They lost in 3 sets. Again, errors were the issue, with FC tallying 25 compared to Cumberlands' 7 total. Trueheart led with 12 kills.
Saturday afternoon the Lady Falcons bounced back again, this time defeating Shawnee State 3-0. Macie Oleinik had a strong 10 kill performance including a .412 kill percentage. Allison Rogers tallied 19 assists in the match.
The Lady Falcons return to their home state to compete in the Warner/Webber Classic this weekend.
