*Alumni Kerri Taylor inducted into the 2017 USCAA Hall of Fame
Kerri (Taylor) Mitchell grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Kerri played volleyball for Florida College from 2009-2012, attending the USCAA National Tournament all four years and winning the 2009 and 2010 Volleyball National Championships. She was a 4 time All-American, 3 time Academic All-American, 3-time National Tournament Most Valuable Player, and selected to the All-Tournament Team (2012). Kerri came into the National Tournament ranked #1 in kills. In her career she, along with her teammates, claimed 3 national titles. Kerri was the team captain for 3 years and the team Most Valuable Player (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). As a left side all around player, she led her team in serving, serving aces, serve receive, attacking, and kills.
While Kerri was enjoying playing the sport she loved, she also managed to graduate Magna Cum Laude (3.79) with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She has taught 4thgrade for 3 and a half years at a Title 1 School in Gainesville, Florida, where she has been nominated twice for Teacher of the Year (2015, 2016). Kerri met her husband, Justin Mitchell at Florida College. They were married in 2013. Kerri began her own coaching career in 2015 when she coached the junior varsity team for a local high school. In 2016 she moved up to assistant coach on varsity. Kerri has enjoyed passing on the love of the game to other young players. In November 2016, Kerri and Justin added a blessing to their family, Jay Scott. Kerri now stays home with him and can’t wait to teach him to pass, set, and (her favorite) kill.
Kerri is so grateful to have played at Florida College: a college that allowed her to grow athletically, socially, and spiritually. She is grateful to her parents and sisters who were her biggest supporters and fans. She is also grateful to Donna and Bob Parimore for their guidance as coaches and mentors. Kerri could not have accomplished anything if it were not for her teammates. She is ultimately thankful to her Heavenly Father for the joys He provides in this earthly life.
