Lady Falcons Dominate Florida National at Home

The Lady Falcons started the match off hot against the Conquistadors and scored six goals, four of them in the first half. Victoria Fonseca started the scoring streak in the seventh minute of the match with a goal assisted by newcomer Angie Sciacca. Paula Rincon Carrillo added the second goal of the night assisted by Claribel Hernandez to add another point on the board, pushing the score to 2-0. Florida College's third goal came two minutes later, this time from Hernandez, assisted by Yaritza Vasquez. The last goal of the first half was scored by freshman Logan McCord, marking her first career goal at Florida College. Both teams held possession of the ball evenly, with the Lady Falcons attempting eight shots in the first half compared to the Conquistador's six.
The Falcons remained unanswered into the half and the majority of the second half. Defender Marta Cuenca scored the Lady Falcons' fifth goal of the night on a free kick, her first goal of the season. Hernandez finished out Florida College's scoring streak with a goal assisted by Cuenca in the 64th minute. The Conquistadors finally answered back in the 71st and 89th minute to push the score to 6-2, but were unable to catch up with the Falcons. This match marks the Lady Falcons' first conference win since joining the Continental Athletic Conference. They are now 2-5-2 overall.
Newcomer Marta Cuenca was named the Continental Athletic Conference's Defender of the Week for her performance against Florida National. She tallied three points between her goal and assist and attempted two shots on goal in the match.
"Tonight's win was what we have been working towards all season. We played as a team for each other and I am so proud of the result," said head coach Joanie Dilbeck.
The Lady Falcons will travel to Piedmont University on October 5 to take on the Lions at 7pm.
