TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Falcons lost a hard fought match to Trinity Baptist College 5-2 on Monday.
Trinity Baptist returned to Temple Terrace with hopes to defeat the Falcons after a 5-2 loss weeks before. Eagle Jesus Cruz took a shot that made its way into the back of the net with an assist from Hilbes Matute less than five minutes into the match. Marin Klapuh answered back with an assist from newcomer Donovan Roberts to tie the match up in the 12th minute.
The teams went into halftime after two Trinity Baptist players received yellow cards less than a minute within each other. Florida College attempted eight shots to the Eagles' three in the first half and goalkeeper Markus Sundin posted a single save to finish the half.
The Eagles once again scored early in the second half with a goal by Odanci Aj-Ndayisaba to push the score to 2-1. Trinity's Ashton Karney added a goal minutes later. Florida College's Leo Hackett was given a yellow card, followed by a red from Markus Sundin. Freshman goalkeeper Ahiezer Santiago filled in for Sundin with a chance to block a penalty kick, but was unable to stop the ball and allowed a fourth goal for Trinity Baptist.
Austin Black saw an opportunity to send the ball to Marin Klapuh, who took a shot that put the Falcons back on the board with his second goal of the night, still trailing by two. With three minutes left in the match, the Eagles secured their fourth win of the season, pushing the Falcons' record to 3-6-1.
"The result of today's game was unacceptable. These players know the standards and how we want to play and progress both this season and long term as a program," said head coach David Ashwood. "We have to take a hard look at ourselves and understand why today happened and make the necessary decisions and adjustments to head back in the right direction."
