TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College men's soccer team defeated Trinity Baptist College 5-2 on Monday.
The Falcons dominated the first half of the match with goals from Rodrigo Nascimento, Marin Klapuh, and Jhon Solis. Nascimento and Klapuh were both fed the ball from Leo Hackett before putting it into the net, and George Roberts assisted Solis on his first goal of the match.
Trinity Baptist only attempted five shots in the first half compared to the Falcons' 14, and the match looked promising until the Eagles came out of the half with back to back goals by Ashton Karney. Karney was able to put up two points on the board within a minute of each other.
Solis answered back with two goals to close out the match, with one assisted by newcomer Jokubas Samsonas. His hat trick secured the Falcons' second win of the season.
Goalkeeper Markus Sundin finished the match with eight saves on 10 shots on goal. Eagle Mason Lambert finished with 10 saves on 15 shots on goal.
"Today's result is a step in the right direction for us. We played well and dominated for periods and with that momentum scored some good team goals. Mistakes were made early in the second half that gave Trinity Baptist a way back into the game, but we were able to stay composed and self disciplined enough to see out the game in a comfortable manner," said head coach David Ashwood. "We need to use this experience to improve and become the best we can be at the right time."
This win pushes the Falcon's record to 2-4 on the season. They will take on the New College of Florida on September 23 at 7pm on Qualls Field.
