Falcons Season Ends Against #13 Wildcats
The Florida College men's soccer season ended in their first game of the conference tournament. The men lost 2-4 to the #13 Bethel University Wildcats, who advanced to the semifinals of the SSAC tournament. The Falcons finished the season at 7-10-1 (2-6-1).
For the second straight season, the Falcons qualified for the SSAC tournament and lost in their first match. The Falcons advanced this season as the #6 seed and traveled to play the #3 seed. "This is an achievement in and of itself when you play in a conference like the Southern States," Coach Anderson explained. "The depth of this conference makes it one of the best, if not the best, in the country."
Recapping the game, the Falcons were successful in stopping playmaker Pascal Mohungsi (leads the conference with 19 goals), but other Wildcat players proved to be too much. "Bethel is an explosive team with so many offensive weapons, and that was evident in the match," Anderson commented. The Wildcats outshot the Falcons 19-5, but they had a smaller advantage in shots on frame with 9-4. Adam Rahman came up huge in net for the Falcons, recording five saves. The Falcons salvaged two goals from the match in the second half. Both of the goals were scored by the two seniors of the team (Luke Heard and Groutchov Pierre) in their final game.
"I'm so proud of the guys and the season we had," Anderson said. "We weathered some rough patches, but we grew through it and were playing our best football when we needed it most. This is a young team that gained invaluable experience and minutes this year and they will be hungry to compete next season. Our seniors give the underclassmen a high standard of excellence to reach for. God has blessed us this season, and I'm thankful for that."
The Falcons will not be in action again until the spring, when they will play in several matches that will be announced soon.
