Falcons Win Conference Opener Over Barons
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College men's soccer team started the conference season by winning the opener against Brewton-Parker College.
The victory brings them to an overall record of 5-4 as they prepare for another SSAC game in just two days.
The match began with an early goal by senior captain Luke Heard in the 2nd minute. The first goal was followed by another in the 3rd minute, thanks to a dangerous ball threaded in by senior Groutchov Pierre and knocked in by the Barons with several Falcons right behind. The Falcons got out to a 2-0 lead just 150 seconds into the match and would never lose the lead.
The Barons were able to get a goal halfway through the first by an own goal conceded by the Falcons, but that was quickly answered. The fourth goal of the match, and third for the Falcons, was scored by sophomore Abdiel Hernandez and assisted by junior Uziel Hernandez. The first half ended with a score of 3-1, and despite several chances for the Falcons in the second half, the game would remain at that scoreline to the end of the 90 minutes.
"I'm glad we secured the conference win tonight," Coach Anderson said. "The guys executed our plan well and I'm proud of them for that, but we have another one on Saturday and then we hit the road for more conference play. This is just the beginning, and after tonight I know we're ready."
The Falcons will play at Qualls Field again at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, to take on another conference opponent, Middle Georgia State University.
