Falcons Come Up Short Against #13 Bobcats
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College men's soccer team came up a goal short against the #13 St. Thomas University Bobcats with a score of 3-2. As a result, the Falcons fall to 3-4 on the season, while St. Thomas remains perfect at 6-0.
The Falcons controlled much of the first half and took no time getting to work. It took just four minutes of the match to score when senior Groutchov Pierre found sophomore Marc Joseph for the opening goal. The Bobcats bounced back quickly with an answer in the 12th minute.
For the first half, the Falcons were the more dangerous side creating numerous attacks and chances. Their attacks finally paid off when senior captain Krist Berisha ripped a shot that rattled the post and went in. The Falcons went into the locker room with a 2-1 lead at the half.
The second half began with serious adjustments made by the Bobcats. Despite the changes, the Bobcats had few chances and failed to net a goal until the 61st minute when the emotions of the match escalated. The Bobcats would then take the lead in the 77th minute and hang on for a 3-2 victory.
Two chances were given to the Falcons to equalize late in the match, but both opportunities were courageously stopped by the Bobcats backline.
"That's a tough loss to take," Coach Anderson said. "We were the more dangerous team for a majority of the match, but some simple mistakes and the result shows otherwise. We have issues to address, but I'm so proud of these guys and their ability to fight it out."
The Falcons have a quick turn around as they prepare for Welch College on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. with eyes on conference play beginning late of next week.
