Falcons Hang On to Win Against Ave Maria
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College men's soccer team takes their second win of the season against Ave Maria University with a tight score of 3-2.
The Falcons took a quick lead when senior Groutchov Pierre scored the first goal of the game in the 11th minute off an assist from freshman Camilo Arango. They extended the lead to 2-0 moments before the water break when sophomore Nick Wlodarczyk sent a great ball in to junior transfer Uziel Hernandez who placed it in the net.
The first half closed with that 2-0 score, but the Falcons started the second half with Pierre netting his second goal of the contest in the 50th minute with a nicely threaded pass from Uziel Hernandez. Ave Maria was quiet for much of the game until the 66th minute when they took their first goal by Alan Gonzalez. Shortly after this the Falcons would surrender a penalty kick which was scored by Kensley Jean Baptiste, cutting the lead from 3-0, to 3-2 in just minutes. The Falcons recovered quickly and saw the game out to a victory.
"Ave Maria gave us a great fight and caught us sleeping," Coach PJ Anderson said. "I'm glad we were able to secure the win and gain some confidence from this match. Every match we are improving, and that's what matters before we hit conference play."
After the win against Ave Maria University, the Florida College men's soccer team moves to 2-2 on the season. The Falcons will benefit from a week to rest and prepare for the upcoming matches as they look to take on Trinity Baptist College at home on Tuesday, September 17.
