Falcons Battle #1 William Carey to a Draw
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Florida College Men's soccer team traveled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Saturday, October 26th, 2018, to play the William Carey Crusaders. The Falcons battled 110 minutes against the #1 team in the Nation, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
The Crusaders have previously won every game this season, holding the #1 ranking in the NAIA top 25 Coaches Poll. The Falcons are the first team to take any points from the Crusaders this season. Additionally, the Falcons are the first team to get a result against Carey in Hattiesburg, Mississippi since 2015.
After playing 90 minutes against Mobile University the day before, the Falcons regrouped to play one of their best games of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Carlos Contreras saved 3 out of 4 of the Crusaders shots on goal. The Falcons tallied 3 shots on target with one hitting the crossbar in the second half. With the Falcons gaining this point on the road, they will finish 3rd in the SSAC, allowing them to host the quarterfinal SSAC match against the Dalton State Roadrunners, November 3rd, at Qualls Field.
