HIALEAH, Fla. - The Florida College Men's Golf team competed in the St. Thomas University Invitational early this week.
Florida College (345-332-335; 1,012) finished in sixth place and was led by freshman Logan Broyles (+15) (84-74-73; 231). He found his groove in the second and third rounds with three pars in the second and six pars in a row in the finishing round. Broyles shot two-over-par in the second round, and just one over in the third. The team's lone birdie of the day came from Broyles on hole nine, a 550-yard par five. He secured 13th place individually.
Aden Bassett (T30) (80-88-82; 250) tied with Milligan University's Modig after four pars in a row in the third round. Tyler Earnhart (31) was just one stroke behind Bassett and Modig scoring (87-81-83; 251).
Brent Walker (34) shot for (94-89-97) alongside Josiah Dieman (35) who shot for (99-105-99).
"I'm super thrilled to have gotten the opportunity to play in the STU Invitational. The course sure did eat my lunch and mentally test me, but luckily with a little help from my dad with some encouraging words after my first round of +12, I was able to find my game a little bit more and climb my way up the leaderboard with my +2 second round and +1 final round," said Broyles. "Overall I would say that I am happy with where my game is heading right now."
"We had a great tournament at a very nice golf course. This was our second best team score of the season. Up next, Kansas!" said head coach Wilson Wickerham.
The Falcons travel to Winfield, Kans. next week to compete in the Southwestern Spring Invite March 27-28.
