AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Florida College Falcons defeated the #17 Ave Maria University Gyrenes on the road 92-87 on Friday night.
The win avenges the loss to the Gyrenes on November 9 in Conn Gymnasium. It was only the 2nd loss at home for FC in the last three years.
In assistant coach Ryan Chlebek's return to Ave Maria, the Falcons came out hot, led by Tyshon Judge, who had 20 points just over 10 minutes into the game! The largest first half lead was 10 points in favor of the Falcons, but the home team cut into the deficit to trail only by 1, 47-46 at half.
The second half saw the Gyrenes take a quick lead on a made three by Jonathan Effertz. That would be their last lead of the game, with the Falcons answering quickly and never looking back. The Falcons led by as many as 12 on multiple occasions in the second half but the Gyrenes would not go down easy, fighting back to lose by just 5 points.
Tyshon Judge finished the game with 27 points and 7 rebounds to lead all scorers. Deonte' Martinez added 18 points (all in the second half), 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals in his first start of the season. Jashavius Perdue added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Bryan Bayonne continued his strong play with 13 points off the bench. Drew Kramer rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10.
The Falcons shot an efficient 13-of-24 from three in this game, their highest total of the season thus far. The win moves the Falcons to 9-3 on the year. #17 Ave Maria University drops to 8-2.
Up next the Falcons take on the (RV) Webber International University Warriors, who beat the Falcons on November 11, earlier this season. The game tips off at 7 PM (ET) in Conn Gymnasium on Monday night, December 4.
