Falcons Conquer Florida National
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons defeated the Florida National University Conquistadors 74-57 on Thursday night in Conn Gymnasium.
The Falcons started off slow, leading FNU by only 3 points at halftime. Right before halftime, Matt Simpson went down with an injury to his hand. He would however return to the game and score the first 4 points of the second half. The Falcons quickly took a double-digit lead and never looked back.
Simpson led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Phat Cleveland added 13 points and 9 assists. Jashavius Perdue added 12 points and Anthony Bittar chipped in 10. The Falcons held the Conquistadors to 0-for-12 from three-point range on the night, while hitting 8 of their own from distance.
"I'm proud of our team for persevering and getting this win," said assistant coach Jesse Repay. "Matt battled through injury, other guys battled through some aches and pains. Our shot wasn't falling like most nights but we relied on our defense for stops and it came through. Florida National is a tough team and they made it hard on us. Credit goes to them."
This was the last regular-season conference game for the Falcons. The win gives the RV Falcons a perfect 9-0 record in CAC games. They move to 26-3 overall. The Falcons have earned the #1 seed in the Continental Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend. Before that, the Falcons finish off the regular season with a matchup against The University of Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. It is senior day for three seniors: Chinedu Okonkwo, DJ Doakes, and Matt Simpson. Senior day festivities begin at 3:30, followed by a 4 PM tip. Be sure to come out and show your support for our seniors and watch the Falcons look to finish off the regular season strong!
