Falcons Lay Egg at #24 Southeastern
LAKELAND, Fla. - The RV Florida College Falcons dropped a road game 89-73 at #24 Southeastern University on Saturday night.
The Falcons came out uninspired and sloppy, while the Fire came out, on fire. They jumped to a 23-7 lead just five and a half minutes in, knocking in 5-of-8 three-pointers. The Fire lead the country in 3's made per game at 12.8 entering the contest.
The Falcons would trail by 22 at the half. The second half saw the home team continue to bury threes. Their physical defense also helped extend the lead. In the end, despite a better offensive second half for FC, it wasn't enough to overcome the onslaught of threes. SEU made 19 on the night at 40%.
Matt Simpson led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points. Phat Cleveland had 15. EJ Wynn and Chinedu Okonkwo both chipped in 10 points.
"Tonight was very disappointing," said Teichmann. "We didn't play to the caliber we are capable of. A lot of that is a credit to Southeastern, but we still control what we do. That is a top 15 team in the nation on the other side that is experienced, tough, well-coached, and shoots the cover off the ball. We didn't execute well enough or play physically enough to win. I need to coach better. We are going to learn from it and improve."
The loss drops the RV Falcons to 18-3 on the year. The #24 Fire improve to 18-3. Up next for FC is a conference showdown at home against Crowley's Ridge College on Friday, January 28.
