TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons defeated the Johnson University (Fla.) Suns 91-82 on Saturday afternoon.
The win puts the Falcons at 5-0 on the young season. The 5-0 record is the best start for Florida College basketball in the NAIA era. Florida College was led in scoring a trio of seniors, starting with Matt Simpson, who tallied 24 points. Chinedu Okonkwo added 17 points and 16 rebounds. DJ Doakes also contributed 16 points for the home team.
"We needed a win today and we got one," said Coach Teichmann. "It wasn't pretty. This was our fourth game in five days, so we got what we signed up for. Overall, I am proud of the guys for what they've accomplished this week."
Next, the Falcons head to Henderson, Tenn., where they'll take on the 2-0 Freed-Hardeman Lions on Friday before taking on the UT-Southern (formerly Martin-Methodist College) Firehawks on Saturday. Last season, FC split a pair of games with FHU.
