Falcons Beat Webber International
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons defeated the Webber International Warriors 79-53 in a slugfest Tuesday night.
Webber started the game off well, jumping out to a 10-2 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining. They held onto the lead and were up 19-10 with 9:36 remaining in the half. The Falcons would respond with a 21-3 run to end the half with a 9-point lead.
The second half featured more scoring. The Falcons extended the lead to 20 with 12 minutes remaining, but the Warriors would not go away, cutting it back to a 10-point deficit with 7 minutes remaining. The Falcons used a 20-6 run over the remainder of the game to secure the victory.
Matt Simpson led the Falcons in scoring with 18 points. EJ Wynn continued his strong play, pouring in 17 points off the bench, including 5 steals and several breakaway dunks that ignited the ruckus crowd. The Falcons got 14 and 8 from their starting center, Chinedu Okonkwo. Jashavius Perdue also put in 6-for-6 shooting on his way to 13 points off the bench.
The Falcons survived a poor shooting night (6-for-26 from three) by forcing 26 turnovers from Webber. The Falcons scored 30 points off those Webber mishaps. The Falcons held WIU to 32% shooting. The 53 points allowed is a season-best for FC.
"Really proud of the response after the bad start," stated Head Coach Chase Teichmann. "We couldn't have scripted it worse than how we played the first ten minutes. To flip the script the way we did is encouraging. I thought EJ was our spark tonight we needed. Proud of him. We're happy with the defensive effort for most of the night. It's the reason we won the game. Give credit to Webber for taking us out of our game. They fought the entire night. Coach Rutledge has them playing the right way. They are tough to beat."
The Falcons move to 3-0 on the young season, while Webber drops to 1-2. Next up for the Falcons is Brewton-Parker College on Thursday, November 4 at 6 PM (ET).
