Falcons Start 1-0
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons started the season off right, defeating the Trinity College Tigers 116-76 on Monday night.
The Falcons were led in scoring by senior guard Matt Simpson. The former Plant City Raider added 21 points and 9 rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting. Three newcomers rounded out the rest of the double-figure scorers for the home team in their first game as Falcons. Jashavius Perdue added 18 points. Freshman Anthony Bittar added 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals off the bench in his first college game. Chinedu Okonkwo notched 13 points in the victory. Phat Cleveland continued where he left off last season as a passer, dishing out 10 assists in the opener after leading the Southern States Athletic Conference in assists last season.
FC shot a blistering 65% from the field. That included a 47% mark from three-point land. The Falcons also knocked in 22-of-25 free-throw attempts, good for 88%. They did turn the ball over 16 times.
The Falcons led wire to wire. Everyone saw action. 13 of 14 players registered points in the contest, with 11 players playing double-digit minutes.
"First, I want to thank everyone for coming to the game tonight to cheer us on," stated Head Coach Chase Teichmann. "That really gets us going and can't be said enough how big of a difference it makes and how much we appreciate it. I thought we played sloppy tonight. I guess that is typical for a first game, but I just thought we had way too much game slippage. A lot of guys played in their first college game or first game as a member of this team. It was enjoyable to see them out there having fun in a terrific atmosphere, but we have a lot to improve on moving forward."
The Falcons (1-0) take on fellow Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) foe, Bacone College (Okla.) on Saturday in Conn Gymnasium at 3 PM. This will be the first conference game of the season. Come out and show your support this weekend!
