Falcons Avenge Heart-Breakers to BPC
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Brewton-Parker College Barons came into Conn Gymnasium and defeated the Florida College Falcons 77-76 on Friday night on a game-winning three-pointer by Jack Gray with 1.9 seconds left.
The win improved the Barons record to 4-13 on the year, but with three come from behind wins over the Falcons, all by a combined 7 points.
"To lose the way we did tonight is absolutely brutal," said head coach Chase Teichmann. "They have our number. We didn't execute down the stretch and they did. I can't count how many big free-throws we missed late. Hats off to them. This is a tough one to swallow, but we will come back ready to get after it tomorrow."
The Falcons did just that, winning in a defensive battle, 59-48 on Saturday afternoon. The win ends a five-game losing streak for the Falcons, who hadn't suffered consecutive losses all season before the streak.
"This was not pretty, it was not the game we envisioned today," said head coach Chase Teichmann. "With that being said, it is really nice to get back in the win column and get the monkey off our back. It would have been easy to roll over and let last night and last week carry over into today, but our guys didn't do that, they responded. I can't say enough, how much that shows their character. We couldn't make shots today, (Phat, Matt, and Bryan) went 3-for-23 from three, but we hung our hat on the defensive end, as we should, and did enough to win."
The Falcons only had two players in double digits in the victory. Matt Simpson led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds. It is his second consecutive double-double. Ray Cao added 10 points and 9 rebounds off the bench. The Falcons shot a putrid 19% from long distance. They currently rank second in the NAIA in three's made per game at 12.
The win gives the Falcons a 12-9 (2-6 SSAC) record. They'll take on Middle Georgia State University on Friday and Saturday in Conn Gymnasium. MGSU is coming off a 1-1 performance over #7 Faulkner this weekend. The Knights defeated FC 98-90 just over a week ago when FC lost a 23-point lead on the road.
