Stillman Ruins Falcons' Near Upset
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Stillman Tigers defeated the Florida College Falcons 107-97 on Thursday night in Conn Gymnasium.
The loss eliminates the Falcons from post season play, losing both tie-breakers to Blue Mountain and Mobile.
The Falcons led the majority of the game. At half they maintained a nine point advantage. They started the second half with a bang, going up by as many as 13 with 11 minutes remaining.
Stillman turned up the heat and got scores in bunches, primarily from Merriweather and Johnson. The Falcons got a little turnover happy in the second half as well, committing 11 compared to just 5 in the first half. The starters logged heavy minutes with a shortened rotation and eventually ran out of gas.
The Falcons were led in scoring by Matt Simpson. Simpson poured in 32 points on 11-of-20 shooting. On his second basket of the game, Simpson nailed a three-pointer on a pass from Ethan Smith. This basket gave Simpson his 1000th point of his collegiate career, in less than two years! Andrew Voss had a tremendous offensive showing, puting up a career-high 24 points on a rediculous 11-of-14 shooting. Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic added 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists on the night. Ethan Smith was the final Falcon in double figures, putting up a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The loss drops the Falcons to 13-16 on the year. They'll take on Mobile on Saturday for Senior Day in Conn Gymnasium. Come show support for our seniors as we honor their great careers.
