Roadrunners Sneak Past Falcons
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons returned from winter break this week after a 16-day gap in between games. They would drop the contest 75-85 to Dalton State College.
The Falcons (7-7, 0-3 SSAC) were led in scoring by sophomore guard Matt Simpson. Simpson had 25 on the night. Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic added 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Andrew Voss tallied 13 points and 5 rebounds. Milz Tatum had a stat-sheet-stuffing 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists. Tatum recorded a triple-double earlier in the season.
The Falcons took a 9-2 lead to start the game. They would lead the majority of the first half, before a large DSC run extended the Roadrunner lead to seven at the half.
The Falcons battled back to eventually take the lead in the second half, but weren't able to hold on.
The Falcons and Roadrunners shot the exact same from the field (26-for-63). The Falcons made 8 more three's than DSC though. The free throw disparity stood out and ultimately made the difference in the game. DSC shot 40 while the home team managed just 17 attempts.
The rebounding battle was relatively even, with DSC grabbing 42 and FC snagging 40.
Randy Bell poured in 32 to lead the way for Dalton State. Bell had a career-high 36 in this gym last year in a close game the Falcons probably should have won. Sean Cranney had 8 points and 6 assists with 0 turnovers for Dalton, despite not making a field goal. All 8 points came from the charity stripe.
The Falcons take on the Redhawks from Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon in Conn Gymnasoum at 2:00 PM (ET).
