Simpson's 34 Leads Falcons Past Trinity Baptist
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons (6-6) defeated the Trinity Baptist College Eagles 84-70 on Saturday afternoon in Conn Gymnasium.
They were led in scoring by a familiar face. Sophomore Matt Simpson poured in 34 points and 6 rebounds on an efficient 10-for-16 shooting performance. He also shot 12-of-13 from the charity stripe. Andrew Voss poured in 21 points and grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds for the Falcons. It was Voss' 3rd double-double of the season and second in a row.
The Falcons led wire to wire, although Trinity Baptist never let FC run away with it. The largest lead of the game was 22. The Falcons shot a cold 4-of-20 from three-point range. They made up for it by making a season-high 34 free throws.
The Eagles out-shot the Falcons 71 to 51. This is not a recipe for success for Florida College moving forward into conference play.
"This is a nice win for us to get us back to .500," head coach Pat Todd said. "Credit to Trinity Baptist for keeping it a close ball game. We have a lot to improve on but we're making progress."
The Falcons take on Toccoa Falls College on Tuesday at 2 PM in Conn Gymnasium. This will be the final game before the players head home for winter break. FC won the first matchup at Toccoa Falls 86-76.
