Gyrenes Stifle Falcons
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The FC men's basketball team was handed a 82-65 loss by the (4-0) Ave Maria University Gyrenes on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (3-3) were led in scoring by senior Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic. Nakic logged another double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Simpson scored 15 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and handed out 4 assists on the afternoon. Simpson has scored at least 15 in all six games this season. Nikola Kovacevic had a career-high 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting. He snagged 8 rebounds and handed out 2 assists in just over 15 minutes. This was the best game of his young career.
The Gyrenes held the Falcons to 2-for-22 from the three point line, while shooting 16-for-37 from beyond the arc themselves. It proved to be the difference in the game. This isn't a fluke for the Gyrenes, they averaged 16 made three's a game at 45% entering the game. They hit some tough ones today and it proved too deadly a combination for the home team to overcome. This is the second game in a row in the 60's for the FC offense. Before the last two games they were averaging 97 points per game.
The Falcons will hit the road to Georgia on Thursday and Friday to take on Point University and Toccoa Falls College.
