Falcons Bury Johnson and Wales
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons had their best game yet, defeating Johnson & Wales University 102-80 on Friday night in Conn Gymnasium.
The 102 points scored is a season-high, and led to some fantastic individual performances. Milz Tatum recorded the first triple-double in school history (NAIA era). Tatum had season high's in points (16), rebounds (11), and assists (12). Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic posted a career-high 32 points while also grabbing 8 rebounds and battling foul trouble on the night. Sophomore guard Matt Simpson continued his stellar play, scoring 26 points on an outstanding 10-for-12 shooting night. He also snagged 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Nikola Kovacevic had his best game as a Falcon, posting 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists off the bench, including a thunderous dunk on the fastbreak! Freshman Matt McIntyre and senior Hayden Todd came off the bench and recorded season-high's in points and minutes played. Todd scored 5 while playing 18 minutes and McIntyre scored 8 points while playing over 24 minutes.
The Falcons (2-1) led 51-36 at the half. Johnson & Wales came out firing in the second half, hitting a barrage of three-point shots to keep the game within reach. The Falcons did their job though, extending the lead every time Johnson & Wales made a run.
FC recorded a season-best 27 assists, and only turned it over 11 times in a fast-paced game. They had a plus-10 margin on the boards.
"That was a really nice win for us, we needed it," stated associate head coach Chase Teichmann. "We played really well on both ends of the floor I thought. Tomorrow will be a completely different game so we have to come ready."
The Falcons don't have long to celebrate, they take on Webber-International University tomorrow at 4 PM in Conn Gymnasium.
