Falcons Lose Shootout at #9 Stillman
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Florida College Falcons (11-13, 5-11 SSAC) lost their fifth game in a row Thursday night, 111-86 to the Stillman College Tigers (22-2, 14-2 SSAC).
The game was similar to the first time these two teams met in Temple Terrace, fast paced. The Falcons and Tigers are the two top three-point shooting teams in the league, as well as the top two teams in assists in the SSAC.
The first half score was 53-49 Stillman's advantage after a Prince McDaniel 30 footer at the first half buzzer. The Falcons were an outstanding 11-for-19 from three in the first half. Stillman made 7-of-15 themselves.
The second half Stillman got even hotter while FC cooled off a bit. Giovanni Bray hit tough shot after tough shot, en route to a 36-point effort on 7-of-10 from downtown. The Tigers were without Daquan Forrest (dressed, DNP) and Londell King (injured).
The game featured 32 made three's between the two teams. Stillman made an astonishing 10-of-17 three's in the second half alone, most from beyond NBA range.
The Falcons were led in scoring by Matt Simpson, who tallied 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from distance. Kent Hegarty added 17 points on 5-of-10 from downtown. Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic added 16 points on an efficient 4-of-5 from three-point range. Andrew Voss rounded out the double-figure scorers, adding 14.
The Falcons made a season-low one free throw in the game, only attempting five. The 20% is a season-worst (albeit a small sample size).
The Falcons reached the 20 assist mark for the 13th time this season. FC averages 20 assists per game, which ranks 5th nationally. It was the first time hitting the 20 assist mark in the last five games.
The Falcons look to get back on track on Saturday as they'll take on the University of Mobile Rams in Mobile, Alabama at 5 PM (ET).
