Falcons Fall to Faulkner
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons lost to Faulkner University 98-90 on Saturday afternoon. The loss gives the Falcons a 10-8 record on the year, 4-6 in SSAC play.
FC was led in scoring by Matt Simpson, who scored 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Four other Falcons reached the double-figure scoring mark. Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic put up some great numbers with an 18 point, 8 rebound, 5 assist game. Kent Hegarty continued his hot shooting, scorching the nets for 16 points while going 4-of-8 from three. Andrew Voss had a respectable 14 point, 6 rebound effort. Zach Brock also scored 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting including three made three-pointers.
The Falcons shot the cover off the ball for the third consecutive first half. They were 9-for-15 from deep in the first stanza. However, they would cool off and the Eagles would heat up.
The 9-point halftime lead was gone at the 6:13 mark of the second half, on a Garrett Sanderson made three. The Falcons would never regain the lead they'd held on to for so long.
Speaking of Sanderson, (the son of Faulkner head coach, Scott Sanderson) he had a career night, tallying a career-high 31 points on a career-high 21 shot attempts. C.J. Jones also got going against the Falcons. He knocked down 5 three's on a 6-of-10 shooting performance totaling 17 points. Entering the contest Jones was on a bit of a cold streak, shooting just 22% (12-of-53) from the field in the previous six games. Rene Scott scored 24 points for the Eagles while shooting 14-for-15 from the charity stripe.
The Falcons take on the Brewton-Parker College Barons on Monday afternoon in Conn Gymnasium at 4 PM (ET). The Barons are the only team in the Southern States Athletic Conference that the Falcons haven't played yet.
