Falcons Fall to Bethel
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons (7-5, 2-3 SSAC) lost 96-84 to the Bethel Wildcats (10-3, 4-1 SSAC) on Thursday night in Conn Gymnasium.
The Falcons were led in scoring by junior Andrew Voss with 21 points on 10-for-12 shooting. The 21 points is a career-high for Voss. Matt Simpson continued his strong play with 17 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Simpson has three-straight double-digit scoring performances and has reached double-figures in all but one conference game. Senior Zach Brock had a strong outing, pouring in 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting, all from behind the arc. He also had a season-high 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Falcons fans finally saw Kent Hegarty return to the floor. He knocked in 15 points on 6-for-14 shooting, while also grabbing 5 rebounds.
Bethel took a 12-point lead into halftime and never looked back. The closest FC would get it to in the second half was a 6-point deficit. Bethel made timely shots, usually off offensive rebounds. The recipe for losses continued tonight, allowing offensive rebounds and turning it over more than the opponent led to BU shooting 14 more times than the Falcons.
Bethel was led in scoring by junior Cayden Edmonson who poured in 26 points while knocking down his first three-pointer of the season and only the second of his three-year career. Isaac Edmondson added 16. Chase Nappier scored 15 and Bradley Walker added 10.
FC shot a better percentage from the field and the three-point line than the Wildcats. Uncharacteristically, the Falcons made only 7-of-16 free throws for a forgettable 43.8%.
"This is a very disappointing loss for us," stated Todd. "We didn't compete at the level necessary to beat a team like that. They pushed us around and we accepted the outcome. We will work to be better on Saturday."
The Falcons return to the hardwood on Saturday at 3:00 PM (ET) as they'll host the Blue Mountain (Miss.) College Toppers.
