Falcons Win Third Straight, Defeating Franklin College
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - The Florida College Falcons (5-2) won their third game in a row after defeating NCAA Division III opponent, Franklin College (IN) 98-87.
FC had six players reach the double-figure scoring mark. The Falcons were led by Stefan Nakic-Vojnovic's 20 points, 11 rebound effort. It is Nakic-Vojnovic's first double-double of the season, as well as a career-high in points and rebounds.
Jacob Roark added 14 points. Austin Mills had 12 points and 8 assists. Freshman Matt Simpson had 11 points in 15 big minutes, including key plays down the stretch. Zach Brock had 10 points, all coming in the first half. He banged in back-to-back triples at the 9:56 mark of the first half. Andrew Voss chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds. He also had 4 blocks. He is currently the leader in the conference in blocks per game.
Bryce Nickels had 8 points and 9 rebounds to go along with 2 blocked shots.
Kerwiken Morpas provided a nice spark off the bench, adding 6 points on 3/3 shooting. Morpas is shooting a scorching 13/15 from the field on the season.
The Falcons had an 18-point lead after a pair of Matt Simpson free throws with ten minutes to play in the contest. The Bears refused to go away, burying timely baskets over and over again to keep it close.
"This was a really nice win for our ball club," said Pat Todd. "Franklin College has some really good players that are well-coached and play extremely hard. They made us work for everything we got tonight."
The Falcons will have a ten-day break before returning to their home court to take on the Loyola University - New Orleans Wolfpack. That game will be the first SSAC basketball game in school history. The women play at 5:30, and the men at 7:30 PM.
