Falcons Drop Regular Season Finale in Overtime
The Florida College Falcons lost a heartbreaker to Florida National 96-87. Jacob Roark led the way with 23 points and thirteen rebounds. It is Roark's first double-double of the season. Kent Hegarty had 16 points and six rebounds despite struggling from beyond the arc. Zach Brock had 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Jordan Benjamin added 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Darwin Morales chipped in 10 points and five rebounds off the bench as well.
The luck has got to run out soon for Florida National versus Florida College. FC battled back from a six point half time deficit. They had 14 turnovers in the first half alone. With 4:52 left in the game, FC trailed by 11 points at home on senior day. Jacob Roark sparked a 13-0 run with an and-one lay in. The Falcons took the lead with 1:12 remaining after another Roark layup. FC would get a steal on the next possession, but then a jumpball was called while Roark was trapped with 55 seconds remaining. FC would get another stop and go to the foul line with a chance to ice it with 13 seconds left. Instead, they missed the front end of the one and one. FNU would go down the floor and tie the game with 5 seconds left. FC would miss a deep three and go to OT tied at 77. Freethrows plagued FC in overtime too, as they missed four in a row in the extra period.
The loss gives the Falcons a 21-6 record for the regular season. 21 is the most wins for an FC team in nearly three decades. The Falcons will find out who they play in the USCAA National Tournament tomorrow at 5:30 during the tournament selection show.
