Hamilton Leads Falcons Past Fisk
The Florida College Falcons finished their Tennessee road trip with a 2-0 sweep after defeating the Fisk University Bulldogs 79-71 on Saturday evening in Nashville. Junior point guard Lynorris Hamilton led the Falcons in scoring with a season-high 18 points. He also added six rebounds and six assists for the second consecutive game. Jordan Benjamin collected a double-double the night after finishing a point shy of one. He tallied 14 points and a season-high sixteen rebounds for FC. Franck Tsoungui rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
The Falcons got out to a hot start and led the Bulldogs by 22 points at halftime. The lead was still 16 points with five minutes remaining, but that is when Fisk flipped the switch. With high-pressure defense and poor transition defense by the Falcons, the Bulldogs eventually trimmed the deficit to four points with 53 seconds remaining. That was as close as it got, as Hamilton and Tsoungui knocked down a pair of free throws each to ice the game.
Despite winning the game, the Falcons shot just 43.9% from the floor, which ranks as the 3rd worst shooting percentage in a game this year for FC. Oddly enough, FC moves to 3-0 in games where they score less than 80 points. They move to 14-0 when holding their opponent below 80. Fisk drops to 10-4 on the season, while Florida College improves to 16-3. It doesn't get any easier for FC as they host a pair of Sun Conference teams this week. The Warner Royals come to Conn Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 23 at 7:30 PM. Webber-International comes to Temple Terrace on Thursday, January 25 at 7:30 PM. Both teams will look for revenge after losing to FC on their home floors back in November.
