Falcons Win Thriller at Warner
Kent Hegarty hit a three-pointer with thirteen seconds left to put the Falcons up three. This would prove to be the game-winner. The Falcons had possession with 37 seconds left in a tie game. Jacob Roark drove baseline and found Hegarty in the corner for the trey-ball! Nick Macon missed a three with a few seconds remaining and the Falcons emerged victorious!
Hegarty led the Falcons with 16 points and five rebounds on the night. Jordan Benjamin battling through injury played thirty-two tough minutes, added 15 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Jacob Roark notched 14 points and five assists. Franck Tsoungui had 12 points with most of them being critical buckets down the stretch. He also had two big blocked shots.
The Falcons got off to a rocky start, trailing 23-10 in the early first half. They would rally back to take a five-point lead into halftime after a big three-pointer by Hegarty near the buzzer. After the half, they stretched that lead to ten points. The Royals went on a strong run of their own in the second half and took a five-point lead with 11 minutes remaining. The Falcons refused to lose and played terrific defense down the stretch. "This is a huge win for our program," stated head coach Pat Todd. "We know where we are as a team, but this shows everybody else. Sean (Hanrahan) does a great job and has a terrific team. This is not an easy place to win. I am extremely proud of our team."
The game featured 15 lead changes and 11 ties. The Falcons move to 6-2 on the season, as do the Royals. FC will take a 4-game winning streak into the Thanksgiving holiday. They play an exhibition game at Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at 4 PM.
