TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - Head men's soccer coach David Ashwood has been promoted to Director of Soccer and will now serve as the head coach for the men's and women's soccer programs.
Ashwood is a former Falcon who went on to play professionally for a year for the Pen-y-cae FC and also played USL2 in Miami, Lakeland, and Sarasota. He returned to Florida College to serve as the goalkeeper coach in 2019 and became an assistant coach for three years before being named the interim head coach for the men's soccer team.
The Wrexham, Wales native finished off his first season as head coach for the Falcons and led the men to a 7-8-1 overall record and 2-2 conference record, improving on the team's 4-8-1 record the previous season. He recruited the program's first NAIA National Player of the Week, Jhon Solis, and coached two All-Conference honorees, Leo Hackett and Markus Sundin.
He will be taking over the women's program, replacing former head coach Joanie Dilbeck.
"Becoming the Director of Soccer and taking over the women's program is a huge honor and privilege, I thank our Athletic Director Chase Teichmann and Florida College's leadership for believing in me to take on this opportunity," said Ashwood. "I am excited for the future of our soccer programs and to be able to push both teams to what I believe we can achieve while being in this role."
"We are excited to have Coach Ashwood oversee both of our soccer programs. He has shown growth as a coach and administrator in his time working at Florida College. Our women's team will benefit greatly from his perspective and expertise. Coach Ashwood cares about these programs tremendously and will work tirelessly to ensure the success and well-being of the programs and the student-athletes," said Athletic Director Chase Teichmann.
