TAMPA, Fla. - Senior Shelby Roth now holds all ten of the top spots in the 800m.
She recently reached this milestone at the University of South Florida Invitational that was held April 7-8. Roth ran an 800m time of 2:23.49, securing 21st place out of 43 runners. Her previous personal record of 2:27:08 had been in place for a year.
"I am very grateful for the ability God has given me and for my teammates who have pushed me everyday in practice. Hard work definitely pays off," said Roth. "I feel incredibly blessed to have achieved the top ten fastest 800m times. I definitely couldn't have done this without the support of my teammates!"
"Shelby ran a very smart race, passing about five to six runners in the second lap as she finished strong and ran close to the same time as her first lap split. To break a lifetime PR by 3.5 seconds in a short race like the 800m is impressive. She has had many good races over the past three years in both cross country and track, but this might be her best one yet. I am excited to see what she can do competing in the 1500m and 800m at the Conference Championships on April 21-22," added head coach Trenton Roth.
