Falcons Will Compete in USCAA National Championships

For the first time in school history, all five fall intercollegiate athletic teams at Florida College will compete in the USCAA National Championships!

The volleyball team completed their season with a record of 19-9 and will advance to the national championship tournament as the second seed. The Lady Falcons are the reigning USCAA national champions, and their only USCAA loss was against top-ranked Florida National University. The USCAA volleyball championship tournament will be held on Nov. 10-12, 2016, beginning with pool play. The Lady Falcons will play their pool play games on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 11, at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The women’s soccer team will be making their first trip to the national championship tournament since 2014 as the sixth seed. The Lady Falcons finished an outstanding season with a record of 11-3-1, a program best. They are led offensively by Sandra Rico, a sophomore who was honored as the USCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week with 35 goals on the season. The USCAA women’s soccer championship tournament will be held on Nov. 10-14, 2016, beginning with three days of pool play. The Lady Falcons will play their pool play games on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. and Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m.

The undefeated men’s soccer team will join the men’s national championship tournament as the second seed. The Falcons finished the season 14-0 with eight shutouts. This will be the second straight tournament appearance for the Falcons. They follow the top seed University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals, who are 18-0 in the season. The USCAA men’s soccer championship tournament will be held on Nov. 10-14, 2016, beginning with three days of pool play. The Falcons will play their pool play games on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m.

The men’s and women’s cross-country teams will compete in the USCAA National Championships. The Falcons are led by Josh Keenan, a junior who was honored as the USCAA Men’s Cross-Country Runner of the Week thanks to his fifth-place finish at the University of South Florida Invitational with an 8K time of 26:05. The Lady Falcons are led by Julie Johnson, a sophomore who has set personal and school records throughout the season. The USCAA championship races will be held on Friday, Nov. 11. The women’s 6K race will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the men’s 8K race will begin at 10:30 a.m.
