Falcons Soccer Team Remains Undefeated

After completing the first six games of the 2016 season, the Falcons soccer team remains undefeated. The team has already secured important wins against key opponents like Warner University and Ave Maria University.

Before the 2016 season began on Friday, Aug. 26, with a win against Trinity College, the Falcons spent several weeks in preseason training preparing for the games ahead. Coach Saif Alsafeer, the head coach of the men’s soccer team, uses preseason workouts as a way to set expectations and prepare his athletes for the year ahead.

“The focus in preseason is to establish an understanding of the program expectations,” Alsafeer said. “We establish physical, mental, social and spiritual expectations as a team and individuals. With a solid foundation, we can continue to build something special throughout the year.”

Each athlete is expected give their best effort on and off the field to help the team reach its full potential throughout the season. According to Alsafeer, the ultimate goal of the team’s season is to give their best to God and one another.

“We know that if we give our all in all areas, spiritually, in the classroom, on the field and with each other, then we will be very happy with the results,” Alsafeer said. “That being said, we’re confident that our approach in our ultimate goal can help us reach the USCAA national championships again.”

The Falcons made it to the semifinals of the USCAA national championship tournament last year, and they are focused on earning the 2016 championship title. As the team approaches the halfway point of their season, their biggest challenge will be giving their best effort in every game rather than relying on last year’s accomplishments to help them achieve success this year. Alsafeer is confident his team can achieve their goal.

“I think it’s always difficult each year you have some success to grow to new heights, but we’re up for the challenge,” Alsafeer said.

For their next game, the Falcons will take on Trinity Baptist College at home at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.
