Falcons Soccer Team Finishes Season Undefeated
The Falcons soccer team has finished their regular season undefeated for the first time in the history of the men’s soccer program at Florida College. The team, led by head coach Saif Alsafeer, has set new program records for longest winning streak, with 14 games, and most shoutouts, with eight games.
“This means the world for our program,” Alsafeer said. “This team will be in Florida College history forever, and that’s a great accomplishment. It will bring great exposure to our program, build our recruiting efforts and establish a sense of belief in the locker room that is unparalleled.”
The Falcons have given their best effort throughout the season and have won key games against tough opponents like Warner University and Trinity Baptist College to achieve a perfect 14-0 record. These victories have earned the team one of the top-ranked positions on the USCAA 2016 Men’s Soccer Power Rankings, coming in at number four among a total of 65 teams.
“Overall, I am pleased with the way the boys have worked and battled this season,” Alsafeer said. “It is the best effort level we’ve had in my four years coaching here, and I suspect that will continue to trend upwards each year.”
As the Falcons close out their regular season, they are ready to prepare for their second straight appearance at the USCAA national championship tournament. They will enter the tournament as the second seed, following the top-seeded University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals, who are 18-0 in the season. The team’s greatest challenge now is mental.
“The mindset is to simply prepare to challenge on the national stage,” Alsafeer said. “That means mental and physical preparation. We’re treating it as another pre-season to get prepped to be at our best.”
The USCAA men’s soccer championship tournament will be held on Nov. 10-14, 2016, beginning with three days of pool play. The Falcons will play their pool play games on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m.
